The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating obesity, comprising Persicaria perfoliata extract as an active ingredient. The Persicaria perfoliata extract of the present invention shows low cytotoxicity, decreases the expression of protein and gene of PPAR&gamma, C/EBP&alpha, and SREBP-1c, which are transcription factors for inducing differentiation of preadipocyte, and inhibits the expression of ACC, which is a fat synthesis factor to reduce fat synthesis and lipid accumulation.
