This invention relates to a process for the development of new preservation technology for crossbreed (PM x CSR2) eggs of silkworm, Bombyx mori following double step refrigeration method comprising the steps of, preserving the eggs of 42-44 h old (early appendages formation stage) after zero hour (fixed after 8 h from decoupling of moths) in cold storage at 5˚C for 20 days followed by an intermediate temperature of 15°C for two days, re-refrigerating the eggs at 2.5°C up to 30 days. By following this method, hypoxia (lowering of metabolic rate) is induced. Both at the time of preservation and release, the eggs are compulsorily passed through 15°C for 2-3 h, incubating released eggs at optimum temperature and humidity for proper development and hatching of eggs.
