A circular stapling device, comprising a body portion located at a distal end of a handle portion, the body portion having a rod member, a staple cartridge assembly and a knife blade in the body portion, wherein the staple cartridge assembly includes an annular array of staples, an anvil assembly having an anvil head supporting an anvil plate thereon, and a shaft extending from the anvil head, the shaft extending from the anvil head being configured to selectively engage the rod member, a recess formed in the anvil assembly, the anvil plate defining a plurality of staple forming pockets radially outward of the recess, a wound treatment material disposed substantially within the recess and a liner over the recess.
