PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope, capable of improving responsiveness when varying optical characteristics when a movable lens frame is moved forward and backward for zooming function or the like, and stably and securely moving the movable lens forward and backward without giving effects on inner members.
SOLUTION: The endoscope 2 is provided with a movable leans unit 32 provided on a camera unit 30 to move an optical lens 39 forward and backward along the optical axis for varying optical characteristics, a ferromagnetic shape memory alloy wire 56, connected to the movable lens unit at one end, and extended to an insert part 9, a magnetic coil 57 provided on the insert part for the ferromagnetic shape memory alloy wire to be inserted, and a variable control means to energize and de-energize a magnetic field on a magnetic field generating coil for varying distortion quantity of the ferromagnetic shape memory alloy wire.
