The device has a downpipe (20) connecting a central seed material container with a depositing unit (10). The downpipe is formed in a funnel shape at a lower end and comprises a discharge opening. An opening width of funnel shaped ends of the downpipe of the depositing unit is changed by a ratchet pawl (26) and pivoted by kinetic energy of seed grains supplied through the downpipe in an open position. The ratchet pawl forms a side wall of the funnel shaped ends of the downpipe. Other ratchet pawls (28-34) have rings pivoted at a horizontal axis (24).
