Disclosed is a crystalline form of [4-(3-Fluoro-5-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-[ 5-methanesulfonyl-2-((S)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methyl-ethoxy)-phenyl]methanone for treating psychoses, pain, neurodegenerative dysfunction in memory and learning, schizophrenia, dementia and other diseases in which cognitive processes are impaired, such as attention deficit disorders or Alzheimers disease. Also disclosed is a method for preparing a crystalline form of [4-(3-Fluoro-5-trifluoromethylpyridin-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-[ 5-methanesulfonyl-2-((S)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methyl-ethoxy)phenyl]- methanone, comprising the steps of: (a) either recrystallization of [4-(3-Fluoro-5-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-[5-methanesulfonyl-2-((S)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methyl-ethoxy)-phenyl]-methanone after seeding with crystals of [4-(3-Fluoro-5-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-2-yl)piperazin-1-yl]-[5-methanesulfonyl-2-((S)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methyl-ethoxy)-phenyl]methanone or (b) recrystallization of [4-(3-Fluoro-5-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-[5-methanesulfonyl-2-((S)-2,2,2-trifluoro-1-methyl-ethoxy)-phenyl] methanone and spontaneous crystallization below about 40 degrees C, without seeding wherein the recrystallization step (a) or (b) is carried out in a solvent system comprising ethanol, ethanol/water, methanol, methanol/water, toluene, 2-propanol, dioxane/water or dioxane.
