Activating the translation mechanism causes the movable rod to move axially relative to the fixed rod, changing the internal tension in the attachment line. The increased tension brings the fixed and movable rods closer, reducing the diameter of the cylindrical structure. The reduced tension of the attachment line allows the fixed and movable rods to move apart, increasing the diameter of the cylindrical structure. Artificial devices, such as artificial heart valves, can be guided through the expanded sheath and to the implant site.
