The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of degenerative brain diseases and to improve the cognitive function, containing l (Ishige okamurae) extract as an active ingredient, L extract extracts glutamate induced HT22 cells through the regulation of Akt signaling Glutamate Inhibition of cell death was observed by decreasing intracellular ROS concentration. When A-peptide-induced PC12 cells were treated with L extract, the expression of pro-imflammatory mediators such as COX2 and iNOS was inhibited, and MAPKs signaling. Inhibition of the pathway was shown to inhibit the inflammation, and it was confirmed that the cytotoxicity was reduced by decreasing the intracellular ROS concentration according to the increase of Aβ peptide, suggesting the possibility as a therapeutic agent for degenerative brain diseases.본 발명은 패(Ishige okamurae) 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 퇴행성 뇌질환 예방 및 치료용, 및 인지기능 개선용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것으로, 패 추출물은 glutamate induced 된 HT22 세포를 Akt signaling 조절을 통해 Glutamate 증가에 따른 세포 내 ROS 농도를 감소시켜 cell death를 저해하는 것을 확인하였으며, Aβ peptide가 유도된 PC12 세포에 패 추출물을 처리하였을 때, COX2와 iNOS 같은 pro-imflammatory mediator의 발현이 억제되고, MAPKs signaling pathway 비활성화를 통해 inflammation에 대한 저해 효능을 나타내며, Aβ peptide 증가에 따른 세포 내 ROS 농도를 감소시켜 세포 독성을 감소시키는 것을 확인하였으며, 이는 퇴행성 뇌질환에 대한 치료제로서의 가능성을 제시한다.
