The present invention relates to an ion generator or cluster ionizer for an automobile, comprising an ion generating element for generating cations and anions by using a high voltage. In the present invention, there is a housing which is formed so as to have a hollow housing portion which links through to the outside of the housing and is closed off from the inside of the housing, and fitted inside the housing there are: the ion generating element for generating cations and anions when a drive voltage is applied and a wound coil for generating the drive voltage to be applied to the ion generating element and a circuit substrate. The coil is wound on the inside of the housing where the hollow housing portion is formed, and at least a ferrite material core is disposed inserted in the hollow housing portion where the coil is wound. The inside of the housing is filled with an insulating filler material.
