A needle assembly 500 having a multi-purpose protective cap 5 is disclosed. The needle assembly may embody a catheter hub 120 and a catheter assembly 120 having a catheter tube 76 or hypodermic needle 15 attached to the needle hub 35. The multi-purpose protective cap 5 includes a first section 10 that covers the needle 15 and a second section 20 that has a base portion 40 that covers a hub such as the needle hub 35 or catheter hub 75. The first section 10 and the second section 20 are separable from each other along the separation line 30, and the second section 20 is reusable as a fixing tool.
