The present invention provides a safe viral killing agent. Specifically, a virus killing agent comprising chlorite water that inactivates a virus such as at least one virus selected from the group consisting of poliovirus, influenza virus, herpes virus and feline calicivirus is provided. The virus killing agent containing chlorous acid water of the present invention can be used as food additives, disinfectants, quasi drugs, pharmaceuticals, and the like. The problem was that sodium hypochlorite was not safe for the human body (high cytotoxicity), but this was solved. As a pretreatment fungicide and virus killing agent for food processing, it produces chlorous acid that is safe and easy to handle for the human body and generates little chlorine dioxide, and is used as a fungicide and virus killing agent.本発明は、安全なウイルス殺傷剤を提供する。詳細には、ポリオウイルス、インフルエンザウイルス、ヘルペスウイルスおよびネコカリシウイルスからなる群より選択される少なくとも１種のウイルス等のウイルスを不活化する亜塩素酸水を含むウイルス殺傷剤が提供される。本発明の亜塩素酸水を含むウイルス殺傷剤は、食品添加物、消毒薬、医薬部外品、医薬品等として利用することができる。次亜塩素酸ナトリウムは人体に対して安全ではない（細胞傷害性が高い）という点が問題であったがこれが解決された。食品加工の前処理殺菌剤およびウイルス殺傷剤として人体に安全でかつ取扱い易く、しかも二酸化塩素の発生の少ない亜塩素酸を生成し、殺菌剤およびウイルス殺傷剤として使用する。
