PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition and a food composition containing soluble polysaccharides derived from seaweed fusiforme for preventing and treating obesity are provided to suppress the activity of human pancreatic lipase and weight gain through dietary intake of high fat.CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating obesity contains sea weed fusiforme-derived soluble polysaccharides as active ingredients, which are isolated from a sea weed fusiforme extract. The soluble polysaccharides suppress the activity of human pancreatic lipase. The sea weed fusiforme extract is prepared by adding water to sea weed fusiforme and heating at 100-130°C and at pressure of 1-3 atm for 5-60 minutes. A method for preparing the soluble polysaccharides comprises the steps of: filtering the sea weed fusiforme extract to remove insoluble materials centrifuging the extract at 3000-5000 rpm for 5-15 minutes adding 2-3 times volume of the alcohol to the supernatant and precipitating and freeze-drying the precipitate.
