PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint reader capable of positioning a finger on a proper reading position without forcing a cramped posture and capable of executing an accurate fingerprint authentication, and to provide an information processing apparatus.SOLUTION: A fingerprint reader comprises: a slide type fingerprint sensor 1 and a positioning part which positions a first joint part of a finger in a middle position of the finger print sensor 1. The positioning part comprises: a front finger scan layer 2 placed in a front position of a finger scanning direction in regard to a layout position of the fingerprint sensor 1, a rear finger scan layer 3 placed in a rear position of the finger scanning direction in regard to the layout position of the fingerprint sensor 1.
