There is provided a method for determining the change in horizontal or vertical position of a device, the method comprising obtaining a signal that represents an estimate of the position of the device in a horizontal or vertical direction over time identifying a maximum position value and a minimum position value from a selected portion of the signal representing the estimate of the position of the device and determining the change in position over the selected portion of the signal as the difference between the identified maximum position value and the identified minimum position value.La présente invention concerne un procédé servant à déterminer le changement dune position horizontale ou verticale dun dispositif. Ledit procédé consiste à : obtenir un signal qui représente une estimation au cours du temps de la position du dispositif dans une direction horizontale ou verticale identifier une valeur de position maximale et une valeur de position minimale daprès une partie sélectionnée du signal représentant lestimation de la position du dispositif et déterminer le changement de position sur la partie sélectionnée du signal comme étant la différence entre la valeur de position maximale identifiée et la valeur de position minimale identifiée.
