The present invention provides methods for the treatment, prevention or amelioration of skin infections, including bacterial and viral infections. In certain embodiments, the invention provides a method of reducing skin infection in a patient with atopic dermatitis (AD). There is also provided a method for improving skin barrier function in a patient in need of improvement of skin barrier function and a reduction in the risk of inflammation due to microbial infection and a method for reducing the risk of inflammation due to microbial infection.
