The method involves determining a distance between a display support and an eye of a patient (104) by measuring direct flight time between an acoustic wave i.e. ultrasonic wave emission unit (110) from an acoustic source and an ultrasonic wave reception unit (112) by an acoustic sensor. A dimension of an optotype display (102) is adjusted (106) according to the determined distance. An infra-red wave echo is transmitted (114) by an optical transmitter, and the infra-red wave echo is received (116) by an optical receiver.
