A deck plate (28, 32) of a corn header row unit (18) capable of reducing grain loss is provided. The deck plate (28, 32) includes forward and rear ends, a top surface, a medial side having a depending portion, and a mounting side opposite the medial side for connecting to a portion of the row unit (18). Structures (38) are positioned about the top surface spaced from the medial side and configured to inhibit a flow of grain. The structures (38) can be formed as one or more of a variety of shapes that include corrugations, ribs, recesses or protrusions.
