An apparatus, comprising: a probe adapted for insertion into a body cavity filled with fluid from a subject, the probe having a temperature sensor in a distal portion of the probe, and the body cavity having an inner wall； a pump to pass an irrigation fluid through the probe, in which the irrigation fluid leaves the probe through the distal portion and in which the temperature of the irrigation fluid is different from the temperature of the body cavity ； characterized by an operating processor to perform the stages of recording the temperature sensor temperature readings while the pump passes the irrigation fluid； make a determination from the temperature readings that the predetermined contact criteria between the probe and the inner wall of the body cavity are satisfied； and then alert an operator that the contact criteria are met.Un aparato, que comprende: una sonda adaptada para su inserción en una cavidad corporal llena de fluido de un sujeto, teniendo la sonda un sensor de temperatura en una porción distal de la sonda, y teniendo la cavidad corporal una pared interior； una bomba para hacer pasar un fluido de irrigación a través de la sonda, en la que el fluido de irrigación sale de la sonda por la porción distal y en la que la temperatura del fluido de irrigación es diferente de la temperatura de la cavidad del cuerpo； caracterizada por un procesador operativo para realizar las etapas de registro de las lecturas de temperatura del sensor de temperatura mientras la bomba hace pasar el fluido de irrigación； hacer una determinación a partir de las lecturas de temperatura de que se satisfacen los criterios de contacto predeterminados entre la sonda y la pared interior de la cavidad corporal； y después, alertar a un operador de que se cumplen los criterios de contacto.
