The unit (4) has a digital logic module e.g. field programmable gate array (FPGA) (6) and digital signal processor, for processing digital operations with respect to a description at a model with a logical circuit and operated over a pulse. An input and output interface (3) connects the digital logic module with a simulation device (2). A register bank (5) stores input data, and is connected with the input and output interface for attachment to a communication bus, where the functional unit is designed such that the pulse of the digital logic module is controlled by the simulation device. The simulation device is formed as a personal computer or a computer cluster or a microcontroller digital signal processor. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a simulation system for performing simulation of a mixed analog/digital model (2) a method for simulating a mixed analog/digital model.
