A tray appliance system is usable for obtaining a bite registration and includes a maxillary tray appliance and optionally a mandibular tray appliance. The maxillary tray appliance includes a first contacting portion that extends downwardly from a first base portion. The first contacting portion includes a first contacting surface, a first ridge line, and a first ridge line midpoint. The optional mandibular tray appliance includes a second contacting portion that includes a second contacting surface, a second ridge line, and a second ridge line midpoint.
