The invention relates to a method for monitoring a felling head of a harvester. In the method according to the invention, one or more observation devices (2, 3) located in the harvester and/or the harvester felling head (1) observe the motion direction of the felling head and monitor the harvesting line, and an obstacle (4) observed in the harvesting line and in its vicinity is automatically considered in the motions of the felling head and/or the machine operator is informed of the observed obstacles.
