PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present insertion direction information to an operator on the basis of the result of an insertion detecting process.SOLUTION: This method for detecting the insertion direction of an endoscope includes a first step for inputting an endoscopic image, a second step for detecting the insertion direction of an endoscope based on the endoscopic image, and a third step for generating the information related to the detected insertion direction further includes a plurality of detection algorithms for detecting the insertion direction and selectively applies a detection algorithm according to the endoscopic image.
