The invention relates to a method to monitor growth of an animal, in particular a calf, the method including recording, by a three-dimensional camera system, at least one three-dimensional image of the animal, and processing, by a processing device, the at least one image of the animal, wherein processing of the image comprises the steps of: forming a three-dimensional surface representation of a surface part of the animal from the at least one image, determining a size parameter representative for the size of the animal on the basis of the surface representation, and determining a volume parameter representative for the volume of the animal, and monitoring the volume parameter and size parameter or a combination thereof to monitor growth of the animal.L'invention concerne un procédé de surveillance de la croissance d'un animal, en particulier d'un veau, qui comprend les étapes suivantes : l'enregistrement, par un système de caméra tridimensionnel, d'au moins une image tridimensionnelle de l'animal, et le traitement, par un dispositif de traitement, de ladite image de l'animal, le traitement de l'image consistant : à former une représentation de surface tridimensionnelle d'une partie de surface de l'animal à partir de ladite image, à déterminer un paramètre de taille représentatif de la taille de l'animal sur la base de la représentation de surface, à déterminer un paramètre de volume représentatif du volume de l'animal et à surveiller le paramètre de volume et le paramètre de taille ou une combinaison de ces derniers afin de surveiller la croissance de l'animal.
