PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particulate water absorbing agent including a water-absorbable resin which is excellent in physical properties such as a water absorption speed, a non-pressure water absorption capacity, a water absorption capacity under pressure, gel strength, durability, soluble content and a particle size distribution, has excellent deodorizing performance, and emits no bad smell after swelled and which of high concentration is used actually and suitably in absorbers such as a diaper and to provide a method for producing the particulate water absorbing agent.SOLUTION: The water-absorbable resin is obtained by: subjecting a monomer, in which the content of a trace component is controlled, in particular, the content of each of acetic acid and propionic acid is controlled to be 500 ppm or less and that of an acrylic acid dimer is controlled to be 1,000 ppm or less, to reverse phase suspension polymerization to obtain a cross-linked polymer； heating the cross-linked polymer at high temperature of 150-250°C without using an organic solvent substantially to cross-link the surfaces thereof； and granulating the surface-cross-linked polymer without using the organic solvent substantially.【課題】吸水速度、無加圧下吸収倍率、加圧下吸収倍率、ゲル強度、耐久性、可溶文、粒度分布等の物性に優れるとともに、消臭性能に優れ、膨潤後に発生する臭気がなく、オムツ等の吸収体における高濃度での実使用に好適な吸水性樹脂を含む粒子状吸水剤及びその製造方法の提供。【解決手段】モノマーの微量成分の含有量、特にアクリル酸中の酢酸及びプロピオン酸の含有量を５００ｐｐｍ以下、アクリル酸ダイマーの含有量を１０００ｐｐｍ以下に制御した上で、モノマーを逆相懸濁重合する。重合して得られた架橋ポリマーにつき、実質有機溶媒を使用せず、かつ高温加熱（１５０℃以上２５０℃以下）下で表面架橋処理を行なう。その後、実質有機溶媒を使用せずに、造粒を行う。【選択図】なし
