The methods disclosed herein can be used in the manufacture of a controlled release composition. The method provides the creation of a controlled release composition containing a bioactive agent, is brought into contact with an aqueous phase containing an organic ion, an organic phase containing a polymer and a bioactive agent in particular. The present invention also includes a controlled release composition of the bioactive agent-containing polymer, an organic ion. The invention also includes the use of controlled release such compositions further.
