The present invention is based on the surprising finding that H5 protein of clade 1 H5N1 induces, in particular by a single-shot vaccination, a cross-clade protective immune response to influenza viruses with H5N1 HA. In one aspect, the invention is thus directed to H5 protein of clade 1 H5N1 virus for use in a method of treating or preventing infections with H5N1 virus of a different clade, namely of a clade different from clade 1 or from any clade with the exception of clade 1, respectively.La présente invention est basée sur la découverte surprenante que la protéine H5 des virus H5N1 du clade 1 induit, en particulier par une vaccination à injection unique, une réponse immunitaire protectrice croisée entre clades contre les virus grippaux comportant la protéine H5 des virus H5N1. Dans un aspect, linvention concerne ainsi la protéine H5 des virus H5N1 du clade 1 pour une utilisation dans une méthode de traitement ou de prévention dinfections avec un virus H5N1 dun clade différent, à savoir dun clade différent du clade 1 ou de nimporte clade à lexception du clade 1, respectivement.
