PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel methods for treating diseases and biological conditions mediated, at least in part, by one or more galectins.SOLUTION: Provided is a system for exchanging the plasma in the blood of a mammal, comprising: means for obtaining plasma from mammalian blood； means for selectively removing galectin-1, galectin-7 or galectin-9； and means for returning the plasma of which galectin-1, galectin-7 or galectin-9 level has been reduced to the mammal. In certain embodiments, the means for selectively removing galectin-1, galectin-7 or galectin-9 comprises an antibody that binds to galectin-1, galectin-7 or galectin-9 in a tube to which the plasma is introduced and treated.
