A controller (CC) and a related method of controlling a collimator (COL). Controller (CC) operates to select a collimator setting for collimator (COL) of an x-ray imager (100) for acquiring an image of a ROI in a patient (PAT). The controller (CC) operates to select the collimator setting to optimize the patient dosage in respect of primary radiation (PR)and secondary radiation (SR) dosage of medical staff (MS). A position detector (PD) supplies to controller (CC) a current position of a person(MS) relative to patient (PAT). Based on said supplied position, the controller (SS)'s optimization procedure takes into account the staff (MS) dosage in respect of secondary radiation (SR) to reduce same.L'invention concerne un dispositif de réglage (CC) et un procédé associé de réglage d'un collimateur (COL). Le dispositif de réglage (CC) sélectionne un réglage pour le collimateur (COL) d'un système d'imagerie par rayons X (100) en vue d'acquérir une image d'une ROI chez un patient (PAT). Le dispositif de réglage (CC) sélectionne le réglage du collimateur en vue d'optimiser le dosage du patient par rapport au dosage du rayonnement primaire (PR) et du rayonnement secondaire (SR) du personnel médical (MS). Un détecteur de position (PD) fournit au dispositif de réglage (CC) la position courante d'une personne (MS) par rapport au patient (PAT). Sur base de ladite position fournie, la procédure d'optimisation du dispositif de réglage (SS) prend en considération le dosage du personnel (MS) en ce qui concerne le rayonnement secondaire (SR) en vue de le réduire.
