A guide wire 1 has a wire body 2 and a distal side coating layer 6 that covers a distal portion of the wire body 2. In addition, the guide wire 1 has a cylindrical member 7 that has an outer diameter substantially the same as an outer diameter in the vicinity of a proximal portion of the distal side coating layer 6, that is inserted into the wire body 2 and whose distal portion is positioned in the vicinity of the proximal portion of the distal side coating layer 6 and a joining member 8 that is disposed at a proximal side of the cylindrical member 7 and joins the cylindrical member 7 and the wire body 2. The joining member 8 has a gradually decreasing outer diameter portion whose outer diameter gradually decreases toward the proximal side, and an outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical member 7 is configured to have a surface continuous with the gradually decreasing outer diameter portion.
