The invention relates to a process for the preparation of an inoculum for low-input crops of fungi which adheres to a carrier material, in particular for fungi which are cultured on wood offcuts or bulky substrates consisting of residues from agriculture and/or forestry. To prepare an inoculum without complex procedures and without the use of complicated technical constructions, it is intended to use a carrier material which contains mainly cellulose and which is moistened and then inoculated with the pure culture, whereupon it is stored under aerobic conditions at a temperature of approx. 25 DEG C until the mycelium of the fungal crop has completely penetrated the carrier material.
