A hand-held device for electrically powered skin treatment is presented in which an electrical current is guided into the skin via an electrode (3) so that active ingredients from a cream applied previously to the hand can better penetrate into the skin. The device is equipped with a charging circuit and rechargeable batteries (73) which are accommodated in a compartment (72) at the bottom of the device. This compartment (72) is covered by a compartment cover (77) on which a connector socket (82) is arranged which can be connected with an external power source for charging the batteries (73). A housing cover (75) is arranged over the compartment cover (77). The housing cover (75) is flush with the outer contour of the device housing.
