X-ray contrast agent for angiography comprises an oil-based nonpolar contrast component (I) with a viscosity of 30-100 mPas and another nonpolar component (II) whose viscosity is no greater than that of (I). Independent claims are also included for: (1) angiographic examination of animal or human cadavers or organs or components thereof, e.g. limbs, by introducing a contrast agent, preferably as above, into the vascular system and subsequently or synchronously making recordings with the aid of x-rays, especially computed tomography (CT) recordings; (2) apparatus for performing an examination as above, comprising a unit for automatically mixing (I) and (II) in a desired ratio and/or for adjusting the temperature of the contrast agent before it is introduced into the circulatory system.
