PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in the conventional colored translucent alumina sintered compact that, owing to its low fracture toughness and translucency, it has not been suitable for use requiring high toughness value such as a dental member.
SOLUTION: The colored translucent alumina sintered compact comprises a transition metal oxide and has fracture toughness of &ge4.5 MPa×m
0.5 , and in which the maximum value of the total light transmission (sample thickness: 1 mm) to the wavelength of 300 to 800 nm is &ge60%. An alumina sintered compact comprising a transition metal having an eutectic point with alumina is subjected to ordinary-pressure sintering and HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) treatment so as to obtain a sintered compact comprising anisotropic grains with the major axis length of &ge10 &mum and an aspect ratio of &ge1.5 by &ge20%.COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
