PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that special sintering techniques such as HIP sintering and the like are necessary for the production of a zirconia sintered compact having high density, high strength and excellent light-transmitting appearance.
SOLUTION: A light-transmitting zirconia sintered compact comprising zirconia which contains 2-4 mol% yttria as a stabilizer and which does not contain alumina and having a relative density of 99.8% or more and a total light transmittance measured at a thickness of 1.0 mm of 35% or more is produced by normal pressure sintering. It is favorable that powders having a BET specific surface area of 10-16 m
2 /gm, an average particle diameter of 0.4-0.7 &mum and a sintering shrinkage rate (&Delta&rho/&DeltaT:g/cm3 °C) in the normal pressure sintering of 0.0120 or more and 0.0135 or less are sintered at a normal pressure and in an atmospheric air.COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
