In some embodiments, the isolated anti-C5 antibody of the invention binds to an epitope within the chain of C5 with high affinity at neutral pH than at acidic pH. The present invention also provides an isolated nucleic acid encoding the anti-C5 antibody of the present invention. The present invention also provides a host cell comprising the nucleic acid of the present invention. The present invention also provides a method for producing an antibody, comprising the step of culturing a host cell of the invention such that the antibody is produced. The present invention further provides a method for producing an anti-C5 antibody comprising the step of immunizing an animal against a polypeptide comprising the MG1-MG2 domain of the chain of C5.
