The object of the present invention is to provide anti-C5 antibodies and methods of use thereof. The present invention provides anti-C5 antibodies and methods of use thereof. In some embodiments, an isolated anti-C5 antibody of the invention binds to an epitope within the β chain of C5 with higher affinity at neutral pH than at acidic pH. The present invention also provides an isolated nucleic acid encoding an anti-C5 antibody of the present invention. The present invention also provides a host cell comprising the nucleic acid of the present invention. The present invention also provides a method for producing an antibody, comprising culturing the host cell of the present invention so that the antibody is produced. The present invention further provides a method of producing an anti-C5 antibody comprising the step of immunizing an animal against a polypeptide comprising the MG1-MG2 domain of the C5 β chain.
