The present invention relates to a fish protein hydrolysatehaving a biological activity of interest, in particular aneffect on the stimulation and maintenance of bone. The fishprotein hydrolysate is characterized in that it is obtained byenzymatic hydrolysis of at least one protein source selectedfrom the fish species Micromesistius poutassou, Clupea harengus,Scomber scombrus, Sardina pilchardus, Trisopterus esmarki,Trachurus spp, Gadus morhua, Pollachius virens, Melanogrammusaeglefinus and Coryphaenoides rupestris, and the species of fishbelonging to the order Siluriformes, said enzymatic hydrolysisbeing carried out by means of an endopeptidase enzyme derivedfrom Bacillus subtilis. The protein hydrolysate according to theinvention makes it possible to maintain the bone mass or tostimulate bone growth through stimulation of osteoblast cellgrowth and inhibition of osteoclast cell growth.
