A method for treating wood raw material (301), wherein the wood raw material (301) is introduced between a pair of rollers (350, 360) and the wood raw material (301) is pressed by the pair of rollers (350, 360), wherein the wood raw material (301) is crushed into crushed pieces (303). In the method, moisture is pressed out of the wood raw material (301) to dry the crushed pieces (303), and moisture is separated from the crushed pieces (303). Further, a system for crushing wood raw material is presented, comprising a crusher with a pair of rollers (350, 360), which pair of rollers is arranged to press the material. In the system, the pair of rollers (350, 360) is arranged to press the wood raw material (301) to reduce the moisture content, wherein the pair of rollers (350, 360) is arranged to crush the wood raw material (301) into crushed pieces (303). Furthermore, the system comprises a conveyor (304) arranged in connection with said crusher to separate moisture from the crushed pieces (303).
