The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating rheumarthritis, containing sappanchalcone. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the composition for preventing or treating rheumarthritis includes a cytokine inhibitor which contains sappanchalcone or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The sappanchalcone can be isolated from a chloroform fraction layer of a sappan wood extract and exhibits excellent effects of preventing or treating rheumarthritis.
