A stabilizing device configured to stabilize the access device when the distal end portion of the access device is inserted through a target location in a patient. The stabilization device includes a binding surface, a proximal surface and a bottom surface. The coupling surface is configured to be placed in contact with an adapter coupled to the proximal end portion of the access device. The proximal surface forms at least one angle and is configured to facilitate fixation of the stabilizing device at the target location. The bottom surface defines a contoured portion that is configured to be placed in contact with the target location and a concave portion that is configured to be spaced from the target location. The stabilizing device is configured to be locked in a target position such that the adapter is held in a fixed position relative to the mating surface and the access device is stabilized.
