PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) activator, which is free from the problem of side effects, can be taken over a long term and has no characteristic taste.SOLUTION: A β-cryptoxanthin is employed as a PPAR activator. A large amount of the β-cryptoxanthin is contained in the pulp of citrus fruits (in particular, mandarin-type citrus fruits) such as satsuma mandarin oranges, for example, and has been consumed for many years. Thus, it is free from any problem in safety, and that has a low calorie content. Therefore, it can be taken over a long term. Also, because of being tasteless and odorless, the β-cryptoxanthin would not damage the taste unique to a food even when added to the food.
