PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air filter capable of exhibiting high capturing efficiency for a long time by utilizing frictional electrification and a low self-supporting property of fiber, and to provide an air purification device using the same.SOLUTION: A friction device is provided on the upstream side of an airflow of an air filter 2. The air filter 2 is constituted by a base material layer, and a layer in which a thick fiber layer comprising thick fiber and a fine fiber layer comprising fine fiber are adjacent to each other or a mixed layer comprising the thick fiber and the fine fiber. The friction device includes: a rod-like brush 11； a movable device for rotating and moving the brush 11； a storage casing 10 for storing the upstream side half of the brush 11； and a protrusion part coming into contact with brush fiber 12 which is the fiber of the brush 11 in the storage casing 10.
