PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flexible endoscope having an insertion shape detecting function, in which even when the insertion part is bent in an irregular direction by an irregular curvature radius, irregular twist force can hardly act on a conductive coil for detecting a bend state of an insertion part and excellent durability is included, and a distal end part of a protective tube of the conductive coil can be arranged inside the insertion part without generating a dead space of a cross section larger than the outer diameter thereof.SOLUTION: A coil unit 20, for which a conductive coil 20a and a conductive wire 20b continued in the longitudinal direction thereof are integrated, is arranged inside a protective tube 21 at an interval to the inner peripheral surface of the protective tube 21. A coil unit support member 22, for supporting the coil unit 20 inside the protective tube 21, is provided freely rotatably in an axis surrounding direction with respect to the protective tube 21.
