There is a need for improved devices and methods for training the swallowing muscles to strengthen the muscles used during the pharyngeal stage of swallowing. A swallowing training device for training and strengthening muscles used when swallowing, comprising a rigid shell, an adjustable fixture, and an inflatable pad. The rigid shell has a longitudinal dimension that allows the shell to extend above and below the subject's larynx when the swallow training device is positioned over the subject's larynx. The adjustable fastener is sized to secure the shell around the subject's neck with the shell positioned over the subject's larynx. The inflatable pad is connected to the adjacent surface of the shell. The inflatable pad is sized to exert a force that resists the force of at least one swallowing muscle of the subject when the shell is positioned over the subject's larynx and the inflatable pad is in the inflated position. [Selection diagram] Figure 1【課題】嚥下筋を訓練して飲み込みの咽頭段階で用いられる筋肉を強化するための改善された装置と方法が必要である。【解決手段】飲み込む際に用いられる筋肉を鍛えて強化するための飲み込み訓練装置であって、剛直なシェルと、調整可能な固定具と、膨張自在パッドとを備える。剛直なシェルは、飲み込み訓練装置が対象者の喉頭の上に位置する時に、シェルが対象者の喉頭の上下に延長できるだけの長手方向寸法を有する。調整可能な固定具は、シェルを対象者の喉頭の上に位置させた状態で対象者の首周りにシェルを固定できる寸法になっている。膨張自在パッドは、シェルの隣接面に接続される。膨張自在パッドは、シェルが対象者の喉頭の上に位置し、膨張自在パッドが膨張位置の時に、対象者の少なくとも１つの嚥下筋の力に抵抗する力を加えることのできる寸法である。飲み込み訓練装置は対象者の飲み込み機能を向上させるために用いることができる。【選択図】図１
