A medical device (10) for administering a medicament to a patient, comprising: a syringe assembly (20) comprising: a barrel (24) having a front end and a rear end and defining a reservoir within which it can hold the medicine； a needle cannula (26) having a forward tip and that is coupled to said forward end of said barrel (24) and in fluid communication with said reservoir； and a plunger (28) having a first end with a plug (30) located in said reservoir and a second end having a thumb pad (32) to receive medication delivery pressure to cause said plunger (28) move within said deposit to expel the medication from said deposit； a protection mounted so that it can be released on a front part of said barrel (24) in a first position； and a pressure member (42) for pressing said protection in the forward direction relative to said syringe assembly (20), wherein one of said protection and said barrel (24) defines two track arrangements on opposite sides of said one of said protection and said barrel (24), wherein each of said track arrangements has an inlet path (64) having an end attached to a blocking path (62) at an intersection, where a first part of said blocking path (62) extends beyond said intersection to a first end of said blocking path (62) and a second part of said blocking path (62) extending beyond said intersection to a second end of said blocking path (62) and the other of said protection and said barrel (24) includes bolts (38) arranged in resilient lever arms (36) and which can be guided in the respective of said track arrangements, where said protection moves through the in tection with an area close to an insertion point of the needle cannula (26) in the skin of a patient of said first position to a second position against the pressure of said pressure member (42) where said needle cannula (26) is inserted into a patient for administration of the medicament, wherein, in each of said track arrangements, said bolt (38) moves from a first bolt position (3
