A method of cultivating soil and sowing seed comprises breaking up soil by pulling laterally spaced apart digging tines 14 through uncultivated soil, the spacing between the digging tines and their depth being such as to create a corresponding plurality of broken up soil separated by strips of undisturbed soil and depositing seed in the formed trenches to either side of the centre of the trench by first 16 and second 18 seeding tines. For each digging tine, the first seeding tine is spaced from 150-500mm forward of the second digging tine. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.
