An elastic alloy wire is used to guide pedicle screw insertion during spinal surgery of a patient. Once the pedicle screw is affixed to the vertebra, the elastic alloy wire is bent away from the intraoperative region, providing the surgeon and surgeons assistant better access to the intraoperative region and the anatomy of the patient.
