THE INVENTION PROVIDES A MOSQUITO LARVICIDE WHICH INCLUDES AN EFFECTIVE AMOUNT OF ESSENTIAL OIL OBTAINED FROM HIGH GERANIAL-GERANIOL VARIETY AND HIGH METHYL CHAVICOL VARIETY OF THE BASIL (OCIMUM BASILICUM L.), PARTICULARLY USEFUL IN ERADICATING THE LARVAE ANOPHELES MOSQUITO. THE LARVICIDE CONTAINS A COMBINATION OF ESSENTIAL OILS OBTAINED FROM HIGH GERANIAL-GERANIOL VARIETY AND HIGH METHYL CHAVICOL VARIETY OF THE BASIL (OCIMUM BASILICUM L.) WHEREIN THE RATIO IS 1:1 (V/V) AND THE COMBINATION HAVING AN AMOUNT OF 100 TO 500 PARTS PER MILLION. THE HIGH GERANIAL-GERANIOL VARIETY CONTAINS CONTENT OF GERANIOL WHEREAS THE HIGH METHYL CHAVICOL VARIETY CONTAINS OF METHYL CHAVICOL, LINALOOL AND EUGENOL, ALL OF WHICH ARE THE ACTIVE INGREDIENTS OF THE LARVICIDE. THE INNOVATION ALSO PROVIDES A METHOD IN PRODUCING THE SAID LARVICIDE WHEREIN THE STEPS INCLUDE (A) EXTRACTING ESSENTIAL OIL BY STEAM DISTILLATION (B) CONDENSING THE EXTRACTED TO OBTAIN PURIFIED ESSENTIAL OIL AND (C) REMOVING MOISTURE FROM THE PURIFIED ESSENTIAL OIL.
