An animal sorting device comprising a housing having an entrance 111, an exit 122, and an animal dispatch chamber (503 figure 5). The animal dispatch chamber comprises entrant assessment means to determine if an entrant is either a pest or a non-pest, animal dispatching means to dispatch the pest, and means 116 to urge either a dispatched pest towards an aperture (709 figure 7) or the non-pest towards the exit. The urging means may comprise a motor connected to at least on paddle. The paddle may have a lateral or rotary motion of travel. The animal assessment means may comprise a set of weighing scales. The dispatching means may comprise an electrified plate. A modular animal sorting device is also disclosed.
