A bicycle helmet 105 that comprises a pad 140 disposed on a shell 135 with a sensor system 145 at least partially disposed on at least one of the shell 135 and the pad 140, wherein the sensor system 145 is configured to detect a user status and transmit a status signal representing the detected user status to a paired device such as a phone 110 or a bike 100. A system is also disclosed which comprises a mobile device 110； a bicycle helmet 105 that has a sensor system 145 configured to pair with the mobile device 110, wherein the sensor system 145 is further configured to detect a user status and transmit a status signal representing the detected user status to the mobile device 110. A method is disclosed that comprises receiving, from a sensor system 145 incorporated into a bicycle helmet 105, a status signal representing a user status measured by the sensor system； processing, via a computing device 110, the status signal； and determining whether to contact emergency services based at least in part on the status signal.
